Which Health Care Delivery Model Should You Use?

Access to health care is greatly determined by the kind of income that you have at your disposal. That’s why the rich get access to it and the poor still have a hard time. There are several health care delivery models and each has a limitation to what it can deliver. Just like any form of thinking, product, or service made by man, there are limitations and benefits of operating in a certain manner.

Primarily, two things matter in the healthcare model, in the present moment, technology and equity. Right now, both principles are on the steering wheel and selecting the pace the whole thing will run.

Below, there are the common health care delivery models available for medical facilities to choose from:

Virtual visits

With the pandemic here to stay, this has become one of the recommended delivery healthcare models. It is appropriate for low health care needs that don’t require the patient to be examined by the doctor. This type of service has increased in demand due to the convenience it offers. A lot of patients appreciate this type of health care model as it allows them to consult a doctor at a comfortable time for them, and they don’t need to waste time commuting. Medical facilities that want to make use of this model are encouraged to install online scheduling software.

Convenience care clinic

This type of healthcare delivery model is to be found in retail outlets. It is most common in rural areas and staffed with few practitioners and support staff. Due to its location, an appointment is often not required to see the doctor. However, practitioners are expected to work for longer hours than usual. Extended hours are kind of the norm.

Office Visits

If the medical situation is a non-emergency one, then this is the most appropriate delivery solution for that patient. In this model, the patient is usually unsure of the disease/ situation and needs the advice of the doctor. This comes after examination or the use of other scanning tools. Office visits are typically handled within the doctor’s normal hours.

Urgent Care

This type of healthcare delivery model is more common in urban areas and associated with medical groups. The model is ideal for illnesses and injuries that require a more intensive level of care.

Due to the intensive nature of the level of care, hospitals that offer this level of care should expect to work longer hours.

Emergency room

Among the healthcare delivery models explained in this article, this is the most intensive and can’t be just implemented through a medical patient portal. It requires the immediate attention of highly skilled and professional doctors and support staff. Facilities that offer such a service deal with life-threatening situations and are open 24 hours a day. This type of care is also the most expensive healthcare delivery model.
